What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions? Go in to detail about your plans for the 5 day weekend.

For Thanksgiving we will be going over to my Grandpa's house. This is the very first time that we will have had Thanksgiving at his house. We are also not sure who else is coming or if any relatives from his side of the family are coming over.  We do have a tradition which is that every year we make our homemade cheesecakes.  After spending the afternoon at my Grandpa's we plan to go over to my Aunts house and hang out and play games. I all ready know that this Thanksgiving will be a lot different than all the past ones.  It will probably be the most difficult Thanksgiving I will have to face too. I just hope to have a good day with family and even though it will be different, I hope it will still be a good Thanksgiving.

A resume on a website will defiantly include your name in larger text in a very visible spot along with a profile picture. It might also include what education you have received, who you have worked for before and what the job was, what skills you have, what you are good at, where you are from, your phone number and your email, what you do in your free time, links to your social media, and some of your experiences. Be creative beyond words.

Define 'User Experience'. What does it mean and how does it relate to web design?

User Experience is the experience someone has with an app or a website. The experience could be a good one or it can be a bad one. It's almost like the impression that the app or website left on that person. If it was easy to navigate and user friendly, it probably left a good experience on the user. If it was hard to navigate and frustrating to use, it probably left a bad experience on the user.

Something that has been user friendly for me is the iPhone. It is very simple compared to the Android but it's really easy for anyone to learn how to use while the Androids are more complex and set up more like a computer and are great for people who are good with computers but are more complex to learn how to do things on them than on the iPhone.

It means that designing isn't just choosing colors and slapping them up on a website or magically pulling a new iPhone out of nowhere.  It means that you actually have to design the inside and work really hard to make the product. It's like using html and css to make a website.

This weekend I got to play my last tournament with my sisters softball team. I'm not allowed to play legally with them anymore because I'm too old. I have to move up to U16.  The tournament was a cancer benefit tournament. It was dedicated to, the team that we took this picture with, head coach Larry who has stage 4 colon cancer. He was also one of the players dad.  We did end up taking first place in the tournament which was a huge milestone for this team. I got to pitch in the championship game so it was a really cool honor to get to pitch in such an important game and then walk out with the first place title. It was a sad, happy and cold weekend but it was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time.

Tell me about your weekend. Share pics!

On Friday night, we had my dad's celebration of life for him on his birthday. We ate Jack Stack's BBQ because he loved BBQ.  Then we had cheesecake for dessert because  that was also his favorite. Then to wrap it all up, I showed the video I made for him that was like a timeline of pictures of him along with some music. Then on Saturday morning, my mom and I headed off to St. Louis for my lacrosse tournament. We won the first four pool games. The first game was 18-0, Second game was 15-0, third game 18-1, and then the forth game 19-1. The next morning we went on to the semi-finals and won 13-3. Then later on that day we headed to the championship. But sadly, we lost 8-9.  After that game, we headed back home and my mom made me drive all the way back so that was an experience. Over all it was a pretty great weekend!

What kind of background do you have with Photoshop? Have you used it before? What other types of design and editing software have you used before? Explain.

I have no background with Photoshop at all. I have never used it. But I have used apps on my iPad and iPhone with just simple edits like changing colors in the picture, making the whole picture black and white with a key object that is colored.  Otherwise, I haven't and don't really use any Photoshop.

Yes, I do agree with you. To be honest it really annoys me to see all these girls wearing clothes that make them look half undressed. I don't dress or change my style for anyone or to meet the "new fashion trend". I dress for my own comfort. All my comfy clothes make me feel comfortable in how I look and feel. In the summer I only really wear athletic shorts  and I don't really care, its all for me and my comfort.   I really agree with the "there are times to wear certain things". Out with friends, wear whatever you want. But when your at school and you are being "treated like an adult" you should follow a more sophisticated dress code where at least your body parts are covered up. The dress code is helping you prepare for reality and life.

I would really like to be a nurse when I grow up so I would probably want to take Spanish and so I am able to communicate with Hispanic patients and family members on my own.  I would want to go to the nursing program so that I can decided on what type of nurse I want to be and if I would rather work with adults, kids or babies. I would also probably need some background in algebra and human science. I would spend my class time learning so that I could have a successful future. These classes would be more towards the profession I want to go into instead of the basic education.

I agree with some of Riley's opinion. I do agree that girls should have the freedom to wear whatever they want and express their unique style. I don't think it's fair at all for girls to have to change their whole style and spend a lot of extra money on clothes they don't even like just so the boys can have a non distracting learning environment. This world doesn't revolve around the guys even though that's how a lot of people believe that, girls matter too.  I don't agree with some clothes that girls wear that obviously show way more than needed. I think that girls should mostly wear whatever they want until it gets to the point when they look like the are undressed but "have clothes on".

This weekend I played in my first U16 tournament out at the Lone Elm softball fields with the Canute Flames. It was nice they asked me to play for them as their pitcher. I'm not sure what place we ended up getting though. Another big highlight of the weekend was that two of my old eighth grade teachers, Ms. Fricke and Mrs. Selstad, stopped by my first game to see me pitch. I also got to drive my mom and grandma around all Sunday and also got to go shopping for new clothes while my sister was at work.

I did not participate in Homecoming this year. Instead I played in a softball tournament this weekend at the Blue Valley Rec softball complex. We didn't do so well this tournament because we were mixed in with A and B level teams. One huge highlight of my weekend is that I got to see my old eighth grade teacher Ms. Fricke at my softball games. That let alone already made my entire week. Then my mom also took me to Worlds of Fun Haunt on Saturday night and got us fright lane passes. So we made it through all 7 haunted houses in one night.

My weekend was pretty good. I had to work four soccer games Saturday morning. I got an ugly sock tan line from the referee socks. On Saturday afternoon we went to camp Timberlake and had a GS service unit camp out. I was one of the three high school girls running it. We had a fun time and so did the girls. Sunday morning we got out of camp around 10:00am and then got to go home and rest for a little while. Then I had lacrosse practice from 1:45-3:45pm and I got to play a lot of goalie. I got hit like five times in the same spot on my arm. After that was over, we went over to my aunts house to watch the chiefs game and have dinner.

Now that you are several weeks into this class and have coded one (super small) website, what do you think? What are your thoughts on web design? Is it what you thought it would be? Is it better? Worse? What's your favorite part? What's your least favorite part? Explain.

I think it's really cool what you can do with html and css but to be honest, I absolutely hate web design. Yeah, the product is great but it pushes me way past my stress point. Web design was what I was expecting it to be, creating websites, but just the amount of stress it leaves on you is incredible. More than I thought there would ever be. It did come out worse than I thought it was going to be and now I know it's not something I would not want to do for a living. My favorite part was after coding because you had a really cool website that you created yourself. My least favorite part is code academy (the coding in general) because I would do exactly what it was asking, even made sure mine was like the example, and went back multiple times to try to complete it but it would never let me submit it even though what it was telling me that I still needed to do, I already did.

What is the importance of deadlines? How do high school deadlines reflect or simulate "real world" experience? Give an example of when you met or or didn't meet a deadline that was important.


Deadlines are very important because they teach you responsibility. If the world didn't have deadlines,  nothing would get done. High school deadlines can somewhat imitate real world deadlines but they are different deadlines. A deadline in school that you missed could many just get you a bad grade in a class but if you miss a real world deadline you could be fired, fined, or even put in jail. Occasionally i'll be having a bad day and not get my homework done.

A time in my life where this quote took place is usually always when we are getting ready to take a confusing test with maybe some material I am just not understanding very well. I will try to gather all my notes and study but it just doesn't end up working out that way. Then when it comes to the test, I didn't do as good as I could of because I didn't refresh maybe to my full potential.

I played in a softball tournament called the ASA Fall Ball Kick Off. We got to play five games. Three on Saturday and Two on Sunday. In our third game on Saturday, I got the MVP medal for the game. Our team did have some ups and downs because we are a brand new team who has never played an actual game together before. We ended up getting third place over all.

To me this quote, to me, means you can never run out of new things to see. That there is your mind that you have only used a small portion of, that you can expand to new things. you could travel new places. Even if you couldn't travel, with the technology you have you could almost look up anything or watch anything you want. It means you will never see everything in the entire world before your lifetime is up so you should never be bored.

How do you express your creativity? Explain.

I express my creativity by posting my inspirational, positive or meaningful words along with pictures to my Instagram and Facebook. For example I spoke out and reacted to bullying and suicide in honor of Andrea Kranker. I stood against what bad things happened and tried to awaken the social media with my own thoughts from stuff that was happening that really needed to be addressed.  I also get creative with trying to think of positive things for other people grieving. My recent one is for anyone that has lost a parent. It said, "There is one thing that I found can be a positive thing about having a deceased parent. If something ever happens, good or bad, tragic accident, whatever it is, I know i will be ok because I have one parent on the living side and one parent in heaven. Wherever I go, I will always have someone who loves me. I know that I will be ok." I love to write positive things like this that are my own work. Just to think of little creative words that can maybe change someone else.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

This past weekend was the worst weekend for me but not so much for my wallet. I reffed nine soccer games over the weekend for a tournament. I did two games Friday night while it was pouring down very cold rain the whole time I was there. I was supposed to have a one day shoot out softball tournament on Saturday, but then it got canceled because of all the rain. I would say that Sunday was probably my least favorite day of my entire weekend. I was at  the soccer complex from 7:00am till 6:30pm. I was at the soccer complex for around 11 hours but only got paid for seven hours! I did three championship games and the first one took about an hour in over time to determine a champion. We played two five minute halves and then they were still tied. Next we had to do a penalty kick shot round and then they were still tied!! This was so rare to ever still have a tie at this point we, the referees, had to ask the field marshal what to do next. We had to do another PK shoot out and we FINALLY had a winner. If any more games after that one went into over time I was at the point where I would want to just plop down on the ground and start crying because I was so mentally and physically exhausted.  I'm just happy it's all over.

I don't understand why all these kids have their fancy electronic devices in their faces all day and all night. It just doesn't make sense! What is so cool or more exciting on those phones than the real world. They should get outside and play more; get some fresh air. I could be a millionaire if for every time I saw someone with a phone in their face I got a dollar. I'm scared for the future with all these couch potatoes. But yet again I won't be here much longer so best of luck to the youth who keeps their faces in their phones.

Tell me about what you have learned in this class so far. Have you learned a lot? Do you want to learn more? What do you want to be able to do by the end of the semester?

I  have learned some of the basics of the html code like how to add a link, but even though I have been showed it before, on CodeCademy, I cant remember how to use it like the specific codes you use.  I can recognize the code after i get help and type it out, but i cant just remember it and then type the code. So that is what has been really frustrating for me. Again I have learned a lot, but it's not stuck in my memory. I would like to learn to get the html code stuck in my head so I will always remember how to use the codes and how to type them. By the end of the semester, I want to be able to make a website without being frustrated because I can't remember the codes.  My goal is to memorize at least the basics of the html code.

My Labor Day weekend wasn't really too exciting, I mean I had some fun, but its not like I went on a vacation to the lake or anything. It was just a really busy weekend. On Saturday morning I worked, reffed soccer, till 1:00pm, It was pretty hot outside so it wasn't something I looked forward to doing.  Then, immediately after that,  I turned around and went to Worlds of Fun with my best friend all afternoon and evening. After we got done with Worlds of Fun, my Aunt Jeanne took my family out to the Japanese Steak House along with some relatives that I got to meet for the first time ever. On Sunday I went to the Santa Cali-gon festival with my Aunt Jeanne. It was really hot on Sunday too so it was fun to go look at all the shops that were set up, but it was too hot to stay there all day. On Monday I got to be in the Labor Day parade with my softball team. Our name is the Wildfire so we threw out fire balls to all the people watching the parade. I'm really don't have a thing for watching parades but I surprised myself and had fun throwing out candy to everyone.  The rest of Monday I finally had time to work on gathering photos to make a celebration of life video for my dad, which I got a pretty good start on until someone spilled water on the computer. I just hope the computer isn't fried!

Yes, I do agree with the words John Tapene has spoken. I especially agree because I have a 20 year old brother who still lives at home, with no job, and has my mom paying for everything. Yet I am more responsible than him. i have a job, i go to school, complete all  my school work on time, always show up for school, and i am there for my mom when she needs me. I do feel feel that when your a teenager its time to start growing up because the more practice you get for adulthood with your parents cushioning, i think the better off you will be when it comes time to actually be an adult.

I do agree that photos that people post are free game to use. Whoever posted the photo, didn't want people to see it or use the photo, they shouldn't of posted it. What I don't agree with is taking a photo without giving credit. If you don't give credit, to me that would be considered stealing.

I am a Freshman here at BVHS.  My life here at BVHS is not what I imagined it to be. I didn't really get the classes I wanted but i guess its good to get some credits completed so its one less thing i can stress about. So far I am on top on all of my classes. i have created great new study habits that i hope to keep on top of. I don't really have any good friends in my classes. But what is most important in my life at BVHS is that I am alive, healthy, and receiving a great education that most kids all over the world don't get.  My favorite class so far is Science and My favorite teacher is Mr. Hulse. I am really looking forward to getting general PE over with, being in the Science Outreach Club and completing drivers ed.

What do you know about Web Design right now? What did you know about Web Design before you walked in to this class? Tell me as much as you can about how web pages work. Try to use an example if possible.

 Right now it feels like I know the basics of Web Design and how websites really work. i can also remember most of the codes that we practiced on Code Cademy and see the codes actually being used all of the internet know that i know what they finally are. 

I knew absolutely nothing about Web Design before i took this class. All I knew is that we were going to use computers and work with the internet.

What i have learned about web pages is that everything on any website is just a huge code that is in like a computer language that you have to practice like any other language to understand it.  It is a lot more work to create a website than just copying and pasting things on a website and if even one thing is incorrectly typed, the whole code is messed up and it will not work.
